Top left controls:

Click plus to zoom in, minus to zoom out or zoom in and out clicking steps on the ladder scale.Use the arrows to navigate left/right or up/down.

Buttons top right are mostly self explanatory.

The last button on the top right named 'earth' may require you download a google earth plugin for it to work.  When operational it effectively turns the map into a Google Earth map, not as clear as the original map but much easier to zoom in and out and navigate.

This design allows a lot more of the town to be shown in a smaller space and also give a clear overview of the main streets.
